“I’ve been chubby since young and when I stopped ballet classes, I sort of ballooned out. It feels quite odd saying this, but I just didn’t realise I was this unhealthy until one day, a few months back, I stepped onto the scale and went like ‘Whoa!’ I was too heavy to be healthy.”
Biggest challenge:
“I’ve also been advised to stay off rice, but that’s not an option for me, so I’m just cutting down my intake by half – that alone is one tough challenge!”
Motivation factor:
“This project really isn’t about winning, although that would be nice, but it’s about self-improvement. Even if I don’t win but manage to lose 15kgs and feel fantastically healthy, I think I’d have won!”
Goal:
“I hope my family will take this cue from me to start being healthier as well. Career wise, I hope that by getting fitter I won’t feel so sluggish and tired anymore.”
Interesting nugget of information:
“When I was in college someone came up to me and asked if I was from Uzbekistan. At that point in time, I didn’t even know where Uzbekistan was. Geography obviously isn’t my strongest point, but really, do I look like someone from Uzbekistan?”
Toughest struggle in life: “
“Not being able to continue ballet lessons because of my weight was one of the biggest bummers of being fat. Also, having to pay so much more for clothes that look like they are made for someone twice my age. I envy friends who can walk into a store and pay RM19.90 for a nice top.”
“I stepped onto the scales and freaked out! I decided to motivate myself to lose that weight and make some major changes in 2009.”
