Knowing what body shape you have helps you to whip it into form! See what some of the Butterfly Project finalists with different body shapes did to maximize their workouts at Celebrity Fitness.

The hourglass
The hourglass shape has a naturally proportionate chest and hip ratio complemented by a significantly smaller waist. Women with this body shape, like June, typically gain weight all over their body, but their work at the gym is also made easier.

At Celebrity Fitness, June focused on cardio exercises to burn fat and resistance exercises to maintain a balanced lower and upper body proportion. She used lighter weights as to not build on her muscle mass.  

June’s gym time: Stationary bike, treadmill (slow jogging or fast walking), bicep curls, squats, push-ups

The results: June lost 11kg and developed a slim hourglass figure.

The pear
Women who are pear shapes, like Pauline, have bigger hips and bottoms compared to their upper halves. As they are bottom-heavy, they tend to look heavier than their actual weight.

Pauline concentrated on exercises that help to balance out her bottom half with her upper half at Celebrity Fitness. This included aerobic workouts to take off the inches on her lower body and medium-resistance exercises to tone her upper body. She avoided exercises such as leg squats and lunges that would make her lower body look more muscular.   

Pauline’s gym time: Treadmill (fast walking), stationary bike with low resistance, cross-trainer, leg lifts and dips, push-ups, chin-ups

The results: Pauline managed to lose the most inches on her thighs.

The inverted triangle
The inverted triangle shape is bigger on top and smaller at the bottom. Shen Shen is characterized in this shape with broad shoulders and a full bust that narrows down at her hips and thighs. This gives her a top heavy appearance.

The main goal for Shen Shen at Celebrity Fitness was to build up her lower body and lose inches on her upper body to balance out her shape. She also wanted to lose weight on the overall from her pregnancy, so cardio exercise with emphasis on her upper body was ideal.

Shen Shen’s gym time: Treadmill on incline, stepper, stationary bike, weight lifts, triceps press

The results: Shen Shen lost 8kg and slimmed down on the overall.
